Fifteen years ago, I met a colleague, Jon Davis, during a Beards Because fundraiser in the NODA area, right outside of center city Charlotte, NC. After that, occasionally we would run into each other at a local SEO meet up in town. Fast forward a couple of years and he had moved to Chicago. And as with all things, life and work took hold, and we lost touch. Until a LinkedIn post last April.
While organizing a study group ahead of a Google Analytics certification, I posted to LinkedIn to see if any connections wanted to practice for the exam. Guess who responded?
Jon works in marketing department of a 92-year-old printer in Chicago. Quarterly, they host educational events for prospects and existing customers. Prior to the pandemic, they were held in-person, at their River North conference room, and had since gone entirely virtual. Over email we started to brainstorm ideas for a presentation.
Over the years, Cushing has welcomed experts at their office to discuss topics including content marketing and employer brand, to high-level conversations about search engine optimization.
However, there had not been a presentation to delve into the the connection between sales and SEO. Bells started going off!
With so many marketers and business owners starting to think about their next fiscal year, it felt like the right conversation to have. And about a week and a half later we had a landing page ready to go!
