With all the talk about the death of SEO, I want to share specific details (and results) from an SEO client I’ve been working with.
In short: SEO isn’t dead; good SEO can still deliver new customers. In this case, they more than doubled their SEO customers over 13 months.
Reliable Acorn developed and executed an expert-led organic content initiative for a professional-services client, prioritizing original expertise over content volume. Topics were selected through a combination of keyword research and direct input from subject-matter experts. This balanced search demand with questions practitioners knew prospective clients were actually asking.
Rather than relying on generative AI to accelerate publishing, we paired professional writers with the experts. They contributed to the content, reviewed the final work, and were publicly identified with their relevant credentials.
We then reinforced that expertise structurally across the website in two ways. First, we added the resulting long-form content to the website in a hub-and-spoke model, with authoritative core topics supported by narrower articles addressing specific questions and concerns. Second, each expert’s profile page aggregated the articles they contributed. From a website visitor perspective, this demonstrated the breadth of each expert’s subject-matter knowledge. For search engines, it reduced the click depth of those articles, making them easier for both users and search engines to discover.
The goal was to create useful, trustworthy resources grounded in identifiable expertise and organized to strengthen topical authority, discoverability, and lead generation, not to maximize publishing volume or raw search traffic.
The project showed that organic search can remain valuable even as search results get crowded with ads, maps, AI-generated answers, and other attention-grabbing features. At a time when generative AI made it easier and cheaper to produce large quantities of content, Reliable Acorn chose to compete on a harder-to-replicate advantage: genuine expertise and stronger lead generation.
Rather than using rankings or traffic as the primary measure of success, we focused on whether organic search produced prospective customers. The outcome validated that approach: organic traffic increased 20% year over year, but lead generation grew more than 2x year over year, showing search visitors were far more likely to contact the client.
The result reinforces a broader principle behind Reliable Acorn’s project: although AI technology can make content production easier, original expertise, disciplined strategy, and measurable business outcomes matter more, and the metrics showed that clearly.
Over 13 months (to account for seasonality), website visitors from organic search increased from 5,281 to 6,353 a month (a 20.3% year-over-year increase). During the same period, leads from organic search visitors increased from 32 to 82 (up 156.3%), showing that the expert-led content approach translated traffic into more business opportunities.

Concurrently, lead-generation efficiency more than doubled over that time frame, supporting the strategy of prioritizing expertise over volume. Initially, organic search produced about 0.61 leads per 100 visitors. By the final month, that figure rose to about 1.29 leads per 100 visitors, a 113% improvement, reflecting stronger conversion from the expert-led content.
The improvement was also visible across a broader period, not only in the final month. During the first four months of data, organic search generated 146 leads from 21,675 users. During the final four months, it generated 231 leads from 23,637 users. Organic traffic increased just 9.1% between those periods, while leads increased 58.2%, underscoring how the strategy improved lead generation beyond traffic growth.
In short: organic traffic grew 20%, organic leads grew 156%, and the rate at which organic visitors became leads more than doubled, validating the expert-led approach and its focus on measurable business outcomes.
Reliable Acorn will help you create a custom digital marketing strategy that does just that.
